THE LEVI’S® BRAND UNVEILS FIRST EVER NON-DENIM LEVI’S® 501® COLLECTION

Collection marks 140^th anniversary of the iconic and original Levi’s® 501® jeans

Levi’s® 501® jeans hold a seminal place in fashion history and over the last 140 years have developed into a cultural icon. From presidents to movie stars, rock stars to fashion icons, and artists to pioneers in technology – Levi’s® 501® jeans are among the most worn and loved jeans in the world.

I was glad to be invited to the Spring/Summer 2013 Levi’s® 140^th Anniversary at Ion Orchard last Saturday afternoon. Levi’s® marks its anniversary of its iconic 501® jeans by introducing a non-denim Levi’s® 501® collection for the first time.

Breaking with tradition, yet maintaining the product’s true essence and timeless spirit, the three-piece non-denim collection is available in true chino, chalk blue and mineral red. Check out how the different pieces of Jeans would look on our 4 guest artistes at the event! 

Each of them has defined what it means to bring your own style to a simple pair of jeans.

1 Denim, Many looks!

From left to right, Ya Hui puts on a Funky Chic look with her biker jacker. I like that she chose an interesting red coloured denim instead of the classics as it suits her bright hairdo, plus the fact that she rolled up the bottom of her jeans making her look taller *Tip Number 1*. Indeed, she creates her own look with her very own style. Felicia's going for the boyfriend look, fyi, she's actually wearing a men's shirt! She DIYed it by tying it into a toga top (with a cute little bow) tucked in her jeans, woah *claps* I was so impressed cause I wouldn't have thought of doing what she did. It's amazing, don't you agree? Tosh, clothed in double toned denim gives off this dancer clean-cut look. If you notice, he's being a little unique by buttoning the first button of his outer shirt instead of from bottom up. Interesting! Ian looks different from his usual vest and casual attire with his outfit today. He's looking Preppy yes, like the boy-next-door feel dressed in the grey pullover. Looking more like a good boy, kudos to him. Oh yes, I must say that I like how he matches it with a formal checkered shirt inside, see layoring does wonders guys!

Next up, we played some stage games.
Selected fans were chosen to pair up with an artiste and what they had to do was to identify featured parts of the Levi’s® 501® jeans within the shortest possible time. Through watching this game, I certainly gained more knowledge about the different parts of a Jeans!

The next generation of Levi’s® 501® jeans and non-denim pants, give the wearer a slightly tighter silhouette, more comfort around the waist, feature slightly larger pockets to store your latest smart phone, and have a shallower yoke for a cleaner aesthetic. They also feature stronger stitching and reinforced belt loops, inseams, buttonholes and cuffs. Craftsmanship and authenticity remain at the forefront, which is why Levi’s® 501® jeans also improve with age – molding to the contours of the wearers body overtime and creating a bespoke fit and finish for this perfect classic and timeless jeans.

TEAM FELICIA

Evidence. It's really a men's shirt, I kid you not!

After styling, I think that Hao Ran looked like a schoolboy. Especially with the Hoodie, hmmm... Very Versatile I guess. Indeed, in terms of overall image, it's very different from the look when he first came onto stage. Not my favourite outfit, but still, kudos to Felicia's creativity, it's amazing!

TEAM IAN

Paired with Boots and a Sling Bag, Jereld also looked like your typical school-going university dude. Nothing fancy, but what I thought was interesting was when the stylist told him to try just wearing his white vest with this hoodie. He looked more sporty look, and I preferred that look. So guys, actually the hoodie by itself is good enough alrdy.

TEAM YAHUI

I liked Nick's outfit styling best. Maybe because I don't really like T-Shirts, but I think guys look good when they dress in Shirts. For Nick's final outfit, he put on 2 shirts and paired with a hoodie; so yes, Don't always think hoodies are for outerwear only but it can be used for layoring purposes too. Overall, he gives off the clean-cut boy next door boyish look, plus omg his dimples *melts* great!

TEAM TOSH

See, point proven! The jeans are so comfy that Tosh can breakdance in them anytime, anywhere!

After styling, Jun Ming looked more matured though still looking a little korean-ish ❄
I liked the denim jacket that he's wearing and I think his outfit suits his bright hair colour. Interesting combi with the striped shirt inside, not exactly what people would think of pairing with but this really looks refreshing and stylish yet not too over the board.

After a crazy round of being sticker-stuck, finally, the results are in, and yay,

This came as a pleasant surprise for the audiences/fans. Instead of having only a prize for the winner, LEVIS gave out the prizes to the other 3's voters too!

TIPS ON CHOOSING JEANS
Just remember to take your (literally, own sweet) time and focus on choosing the ideal pair suitable for yourself - be it the colour or the cut, etc. The comfort of it is of utmost importance to me, especially in this Singapore weather of which I can literally faint, omg it's so importance! Oh, Jeans/Denims are really worth an investment! So, invest in one classic denim today and you'll not regret (:
